Your whole orbit, in one window.

Home shows who’s around, what’s new and whose birthday it is. Everything here is Orbis as it is today: real screens, or drawn from them.

07:40Morning

Say good morning, wherever they are.

Direct messages and groups with replies, reactions, voice notes and GIFs. When a friend shares their local time, their sky runs along the top of your chat, and late at night for them, Send for their morning has your message waiting when they wake.

  • Files up to 1 GBBig uploads pick up where they stopped.
  • Forward to ten chatsWith a note, attachments and all.
  • @timeShare a time everyone reads in their own zone.
  • Orbit daysBirthdays and friendship milestones, remembered.
  • Your InboxMentions, replies and decisions in one place.
A direct message with Maya Chen, who shares her local time: it is 23:40 for Maya in Los Angeles. At 06:58 she wrote that the studio wall is finished and sent a voice note, and you replied. Your next message, “Call when you wake up?”, is scheduled for Maya’s morning: it sends at 09:00 her time, 17:00 yours.

12:30Midday

Plans that actually happen.

Every DM, group and channel has room for plans and games, so “we should hang out sometime” turns into a time and a place.

  1. Find a timeOffer a few times. Everyone sees them in their own time zone and taps the ones they can make.
  2. Lock it inThe best time becomes a Plan, with everyone who can make it already in.
  3. LiftoffWhen everyone’s ready, the whole group gets the same 3, 2, 1.
When works? for Movie night in Weekend crew: four times as moons, each lit by how many can make it, and each late for someone who shares their local time. Saturday 7 at 19:30 suits all four, so Alex locks it in and it becomes a Plan. Everyone taps I’m ready, the group counts down 3, 2, 1 together, and Movie night lifted off at 19:30.
  • Plans with placesI’m in, Maybe or In a little while, from 2 to 32 places.
  • What to playMake a shortlist of games and vote.
  • Pick a SideEveryone chooses in secret, then the big reveal.
  • Send it laterSchedule a message, or send it when they come online.

A community called The Creative Corner, with its own banner. Alex drags the design-crit channel up into place while everyone sees the new order. Maya Chen, Oliver Brooks and Sofia Rivera are in The lounge. In the-living-room, Sofia has just joined, Ollie asks what everyone is listening to, Maya’s movie-night poster gets its fifth star and lights Brightest, and Alex’s message, Movie night is Saturday at 19:30, is marked as a decision.

19:30Evening

Calls that feel like the same room.

Voice, video and screen sharing in DMs, groups and voice lounges. In a lounge everyone sits on the same orbit, reactions swing round faces as comets, and when you’re playing the same game, Same sky lights up between you.

A voice lounge with four friends on one orbit: Oliver Brooks, Sofia Rivera, Alex Morgan and Maya Chen. Maya is talking. Maya and Oliver are both playing Terraria, so Same sky lights the orbit between them, under a banner that says Terraria together, 1 h 12 min. Reactions from the call bar fly round their faces as comets.

22:10Night

The week’s brightest moments.

Switch on Brightest in a group or community. When enough people react to a message with the chosen star, it rises into a shared night sky. Every Monday, a new week begins.

This week’s Brightest sky in The Creative Corner: thirteen messages that at least five people starred, laid out from Monday to Thursday along the horizon, with each day’s stars joined by faint lines. The brightest, from Thursday at 21:06, is Maya Chen’s in #the-living-room: “Okay, I finally repainted the studio wall that soft clay colour.” Eleven people starred it.

23:50Late

Some things are just between you two.

Secret chats are separate, end-to-end encrypted conversations between friends. Messages, photos, voice notes and files are encrypted on your device before they leave it, so Orbis can’t read them.

Your everyday chats aren’t end-to-end encrypted. Secret chats are, for the things that are only for the two of you.

If you confirm a report, its selected message and up to ten preceding messages are shared with Orbis moderators for review.

  • Disappearing messagesFrom 30 seconds to a week.
  • Add a deviceCompare symbols with an approved device, or use your recovery key.
  • Verify each otherCheck that it’s really them.
  • Files up to 100 MBPhotos, videos, GIFs and voice notes too.
A secret chat with Maya Chen, end-to-end encrypted and verified. New messages disappear after a day, and each shows a small ring as its time runs out. Below it, a new laptop is approved by comparing seven symbols on both screens.
